What is Healing?
and The Five Selves
This week in Portals we are looking at two core aspects of the human experience: healing, and the evolution journey of the self.
In What is Healing? we are discovering, with Lonny Jarrett and Alexander Love, the profound journey toward wholeness. It is a journey to rediscover and reintegrate the fragments left behind, including fragments frozen in time that are in the shadows.
In The Five Selves we explore the path giving rise to the birth of the new dimensions of self. It is a trace from ancient tribal societies, through the Renaissance and into this post-modern world and beyond. This exploration builds on Homo Universalis Activates and The 1000 Faces of Homo Universalis. In this contemplative conversation, Aviv Shahar and Jeff Vander Clute reflect on the tribal self, through to first-self individuation in the planetary you, and then the second, third and fourth self-individuations to discovering the essence generator you, towards the activation of the Homo Solaris and Universalis capacities that are naturally arising.
These two dimensions, the process of healing and release and the process of development and evolution, interpenetrate and promote each other. We heal to liberate our evolutionary potential. We evolve so we can more fully heal and facilitate redemptive arising in others.
What is Healing?
Imagine a process of healing that is powerful enough to restore wellbeing and transform a life, a family, a community with just a one-degree shift in perception or attention.
Cultural and environmental upheaval call for natural and regenerative paths. Alleviating anxiety, pain, and a sense of separation are byproduct to whole person integration — physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. A healthy and balanced mind and body can be the natural outcome of a life rooted in the understanding that wholeness and healing are a human birthright, inherent in our design and purpose.
In this conversation, Aviv Shahar is joined by two practitioners with extensive experience in the process of restoration, wholeness, and healing: Lonny Jarrett, author, scholar, and teacher of East Asian medicine who has practiced acupuncture and herbology for more than 40 years, and Alexander Love, an acupuncturist, life coach, and cranial-sacral therapist, who brings a unique integration of modalities.
Through their life-long experience with the healing process, including personal trauma and regeneration, Lonny and Alexander invite us to rediscover who we humans naturally really are.

The Five Selves
What is the Self? What are its evolving dimensions? And how are these woven into our ancestral story?
Post-modernity stripped away almost all structures and constructs in the name of liberating the person to their authentic voice. It left us with a limiting focus on personal identity. This narrowing view of the self seems to drive much of our of global life — culture, politics, entertainment.
Is there a role for the “self” in a life that strives to express the highest potential of its design? What might be a way to co-facilitate this new wave of universal evolution appearing now?
In the human journey of change and growth, there is a necessary phase of full individuation; we accept responsibility for our own lives and future, as we become self-authoring and self-directed. It’s a process that activates higher inner machinery and makes possible our next steps of integration and universal connections.
How does this all work? In this conversation, Aviv Shahar is joined by author, consultant, and longtime Portals friend Jeff Vander Clute. Jeff is also co-founder of Sourcing the Way. Aviv and Jeff take a deeper look at the nature and expressions of the self and their role in the human transformation journey.

Becoming What We Think About - Why Should We Care?
We’ve heard this bit of wisdom most of our lives: you become what you think about. And it’s backed up by impressive neuroscience on the brain and mind capacity to be programmed, printed and rewired.
It also means the quality of our mental diet is critical. Are we inputting “junk food” - exciting, titillating, but also maybe toxic and detrimental to our mental health and overall life balance? Think: reality TV, horror movies, violent video games, and social media. Or do we seek out knowledge with high energetic value that actually inspires us and supports what we want to become?
On Sept. 16, we take a deeper look at why the quality of the impressions we feed our brain is so vital to our wellbeing - our moods, our stress levels, and even what we attract into our lives. We’ll also look at different types of knowledge and at more natural ways to source for ourselves a high quality mental diet. This conversation is drawn from Current Openings #7: The Knowledge Problem.
Save the date! This event is Free and open to all. As always, we are grateful for your interest and support and thank you for being a part of the Portals community.
